Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
I'm afraid
Biblical courage isn't the absence of fear — it's the presence of God.
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Psalms 27:1
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Joshua 1:9
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Almost every time God says 'fear not' in Scripture, He adds a reason: 'for I am with thee'. The remedy offered is not optimism, it is companionship. Joshua receives this word facing a mission bigger than himself — and the promise is presence, not ease.
Name the fear: does it speak of loss, rejection, failure, or the future? Set one of God's promises beside it.
Practice today
Take one small step today toward whatever you've been avoiding out of fear — a call, a conversation, a beginning.
Father, you know what frightens me. I don't just ask you to take the fear away, but that I would feel you with me inside it. Strengthen me with your righteous right hand. In Jesus' name, amen.
