1 Thessalonians 5:18
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
I want to give thanks
Gratitude is the heart's memory that refuses to forget what God has done.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Psalms 103:2
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”
Psalms 100:4
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.”
Colossians 3:17
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
Paul says 'in every thing', not 'for every thing': gratitude isn't pretending pain doesn't exist, it's finding God inside it. Psalm 103 shows gratitude is a discipline of memory — the soul forgets quickly, so it needs to be reminded.
Gratitude is a discipline of memory. What three things from today deserve a sincere thank you?
Practice today
Thank someone in person today for something they did for you.
Lord, thank you for what I already have and don't always see. Teach my heart to recognize your goodness every day. In Jesus' name, amen.
