Read Psalm 119:97–112

In Psalm 119:105, God's word is compared to a lamp for our feet and a light for our path.

Today's reflection

We cannot always see the whole road. A difficult conversation, a postponed decision or a worry about the future can take up so much space that today's step feels too small. The psalmist offers another picture: a lamp close to our feet. The light does not need to reveal every bend to help us walk.

In Psalm 119, trust in Scripture grows from an ongoing relationship with God. The writer meditates, learns and seeks to obey, even in distress. This is not a promise of a life without difficulty. It is an invitation to find direction in what God has already revealed rather than waiting to control everything.

Perhaps the next step is not to fix your entire life. It might be listening before replying, admitting a mistake or carrying out a responsibility honestly. When we return to Scripture, simple questions have room to emerge: does this choice express love? Am I acting truthfully? Is there someone I can care for today?

Faith grows through quiet decisions too. You may not have every answer, but you can choose an action consistent with what you have already learned from Jesus. Bring your questions to God, seek wise counsel when needed and take the next step humbly. Walking with God does not require pretending to be certain; it requires a willingness to listen and learn.

One action for today

Choose a situation you have been putting off. After reading, write down one small, possible action that expresses love and truth. Do it today, without trying to solve everything at once.

A question to consider

What faithful next step can I take, even when I cannot see the whole path?

Prayer

Lord, when I want to control the future, help me return to your word. Give me humility to listen, courage to act truthfully and attentiveness to love those nearby. Guide today's choices and teach me to trust you, one step at a time. In Jesus' name, amen.

What is a daily devotional?

It is a time set aside for Bible reading, reflection and prayer. You can begin with a short passage, consider its context and think about putting it into practice. A reflection accompanies Bible reading; it does not replace it.
